You shouldn’t have to “show up, sign, hope for the best.” If you’re anxious, medically complex, prone to nausea, or scheduling a longer procedure, the safest anesthesia experience starts before you sit in the chair.
At Angela Leung DDS PC – The Endodontics Implant Center, we treat pre-anesthesia planning as medical risk control: health screening, airway-aware planning, medication timing, fasting clarity, and monitoring that prevents surprises. When the plan is right, your appointment is calmer, safer, and far less likely to get cancelled.
Most cancelled anesthesia appointments happen for predictable reasons: someone ate at the wrong time, took (or skipped) a medication that changed blood pressure/bleeding/sedation response, or showed up sick and unsafe to sedate.
If you’re unsure about any of these, contact us before your appointment. Fixing it the day before is doable. Fixing it in the parking lot is not.
Two people can have the same dental procedure and need different anesthesia planning. That’s normal. The difference is medical profile, airway risk, anxiety patterns, and medication list.
If deeper sedation is not the safest choice for your risk profile, we’ll tell you directly and offer safer alternatives (strong numbing + pacing, nitrous, staged appointments, or referral for anesthesia care when appropriate).
Not every patient needs the same level of sedation. “Stronger” is not automatically better.
The goal is simple: enough comfort to finish treatment safely, without pushing you into a risk level your body doesn’t support.

Before we proceed with anesthesia-supported care, we focus on the variables that change safety:
If the safest decision is to postpone, modify the plan, treat infection first, or coordinate physician clearance, we’d rather make that call early than “push through”.
When the foundation is stable, we can plan durable restoration rather than repeated repairs:
Medication mistakes are a top reason anesthesia plans fail on the day of care. We give you written, specific guidance based on your meds, including:
Bring your full list (including OTC meds, vitamins, and supplements). If you can, bring photos of the labels. Precision beats memory.
Safety is a sequence, not a vibe.
Your visit is designed around:
We’ll give you a written plan with costs before treatment begins, then help you choose a realistic path forward.
Yes. Airway risk changes planning. Tell us early so we can select the safest option and set the right monitoring and escort requirements.
Don’t change anything without clinician guidance. We’ll review your medication list and coordinate timing safely.
Usually yes, with a tailored medication and meal plan. We’ll give written timing instructions.
We screen for nausea history and adjust the plan (timing, hydration strategy, medication coordination, and recovery guidance).
We build a comfort plan: numbing strategy, pacing, nitrous or oral sedation when appropriate, and clear signals so you feel in control.
Call before you travel. In many cases we must reschedule for safety, but we’ll guide you fast.
If you’re using sedating medication, no. You’ll need a responsible adult escort.
It depends on the type of sedation and your metabolism/med list. We plan recovery expectations in advance so you can schedule your day realistically.
